Quick Estimate Summaries

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. In Goldenseal you can create printed forms to give to clients, or reports to view in more detail, yourself.

DATA menu

The Data menu handles MacNail's reports. These are special worksheets that give you pre-formatted information about each estimate created in the MacNail construction estimating software.

Quick Summary

Choose *Quick Summary to create a project report for an estimate created by the MacNail construction estimator software.

The project report is similar to the Summation level of an estimate.

* You can have all line items as displayed on screen.
* You can 'hide' your overhead, profit, and other 'soft' costs by dividing them between the actual 'hard' construction costs.

To use these display methods, choose *MacNail Options... from the OPTIONS menu (see page 136).

The quick summary reports will be given a name with the name of the estimate and 'project report'.
For example:
* 'McDermott estimate' will be renamed 'McDermott project report'.

It will be stored in the Current reports folder.

NOTE: All reports will be replaced by new reports with the same name. To keep an older report, use Save As from the FILE menu to rename it or move it to an 'Archives' folder.

You can use the project report the same as any other Excel worksheet. Print it to submit a bid, or copy and paste it to a word processor if you would like a more attractive format for your bid proposals.

The project report is a much smaller document than the full estimate, so you can open it in much less time. This is handy if you ever have to refer back to an estimate just to see the 'bottom line'.
