Resetting Estimating Windows

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. Its approach to estimating is similar to what we used in MacNail.

Reset Windows

Choose *Reset Windows to change between the one-window and multiple-window displays in the MacNail construction estimating software. The windows will be drawn to fit comfortably within the size of your monitor.

If you have a large screen and want to expand MacNail beyond its original size, choose *Reset Windows once or twice.
If you choose *Reset Windows when one estimating window is on the screen, a multiple-window display will be set up. It will have four windows if there is a Clearinghouse, and three windows otherwise.
* Dimensions will be in the upper left window.
* Specifications will be in the upper right.
* Clearinghouse in the lower left.
* Summation in the lower right.

To expand any window to full screen size--click on the 'zoom box' at the right side of the title bar. To return it to original size, click the 'zoom' box again (see also page 170).

Use the multiple-window display:
* For 'what if' changes--you can make changes to the Specifications or Dimensions areas and see changes in the Summation immediately.
* For quick simple changes when working without the help of the Estimating Manager.
If you choose *Reset Windows when there is more than one window open, a one-window display will be created. It creates one large window for the entire estimating worksheet. Use the MacNail menu to navigate in it (see page 138).

Use the one-window display:
* To enter Fixed costs, Dimensions and Specifications.
* To view the finished bid.

HINT: If you accidentally lose a window when using the multiple-window display, choose *Reset Windows (to go down to one window), then choose *Reset Windows again.
