Converting from MacNail Accounting

NOTE: MacNail is our older Excel based program, available from 1987 until about 2002. It has been retired and replaced by our current Goldenseal software. This page explains how to make the transition, for die-hard MacNail users who are still switching over.

Problem

Confusion about the differences between MacNail software (estimating, accounting, scheduling, spec writer modules) and Goldenseal software (one integrated program for estimating, accounting, scheduling, project management, contract writing).

Diagnosis

Here is a listing of what matches with what, between the two software programs:

Solution

MacNail Checkbook Ledger -> Checking Transactions (also cash, credit card etc)
MacNail Labor Log -> Labor Hours records
MacNail Material Log -> Material Purchases records
MacNail Subcontractor Log -> Subcontractor Costs
MacNail Other Log -> Other Costs
MacNail Master Index -> Employee, Material Supplier, Subcontractor and Other Cost accounts. Also Customer and Project accounts for the Jobs portion.
MacNail Payroll Report- the Write Payroll command, and Payroll Records.
MacNail Payroll Files- no direct equivalent. Check Payroll Records, tax payments in Other Costs records, or various payroll reports.
MacNail Payroll Blanks- handled via Tax Items, Tax Tables and Tax Packages
MacNail Cost Control sheets- the Job Costs command. Also the Billing command and Billing Records

MacNail Estimates- Estimates

MacNail Scheduling- now part of Estimates (check the Start Date column for each project line item)

MacNail Customizing- Assemblies, Cost Items

MacNail SpecWriter- Contracts
