Creating a New Estimate

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features.

File Menu Commands

The FILE menu contains commands needed for opening, closing, naming and printing your documents.
Use the existing Excel Page Setup and Printer Setup menu commands to prepare for printing.

New Estimate

Choose *New Estimate when you want to create a new estimate or a custom estimator for use in the MacNail construction estimating software.

  1. If you already have an estimator open and there is not enough memory, you will be asked if you want to close the first estimator.
  2. A New Estimate dialog box will then appear.
  3. Click on the radio button to create a new estimate, open an existing estimator or create a custom estimator.
  4. Click on the name of the estimator you would like to use. If there are more items than can fit in the display, use the scroll controls to display them. The list will include all estimator files that are in the Estimating blanks folder--displayed in alphabetical order.
  5. Type in a project name. NOTE: The dialog box has room for up to 16 characters in your project name (including spaces and punctuation). Any additional characters will be truncated.
  6. Click OK.

The chosen estimator will be opened, and a new estimate will be created.
* If you are making a new Estimate, it will be put in the Current estimates folder.
* If you are making a new Estimator, it will be put in the Estimating blanks folder.

HINT: To make a copy of an existing estimate, open the estimate, then choose Save As... from the File menu to save it as a new name.

Command key shortcut: Option-Command-F.
