Estimating Manager

NOTE-- We retired MacNail estimating in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It's an integrated, stand-alone program that does not require the Excel spreadsheet.

Estimating Manager

Although it is possible to work on MacNail estimates without the use of the Estimating Manager (see page 140), you will find that the Estimating Manager makes the MacNail construction estimating software much easier to use.

To start up in MacNail:
1. Double-click on the MacNail Manager.
2. When it presents you with a directory of MacNail functions, click on Estimates and then click OK.
Hint: Advanced users can also open the Estimating Manager directly. Open the Estimates folder, and double-click on the Estimating Manager.
3. The Estimating Manager will open automatically.
NOTE: You can also use the MacNail Manager to open MacNail's accounting, scheduling, and customizing functions, if you have purchased those modules. See the respective manuals for more about them.
4. When the Estimating Manager opens, it adds special MacNail commands at the bottom of the regular Excel menus.

NOTE: Every MacNail command is marked with an asterisk --for example, *Include in Bid.

When you quit from Excel or close the Estimating Manager, you will be asked whether to save changes in the Estimating Manager.
* If you have started work on a new estimate, or if you have changed any of the items in the Options box, click 'OK'. The changes will be saved, so you will have the same conditions the next time you work on estimates.
* If you haven't made any important changes, you can click 'no'.
