MacNail Estimating Folder Setup

NOTE-- MacNail estimating was retired in 2000, and replaced with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It stores all estimates as records in a single database file, so you don't have to worry about folders or multiple files.

Estimating Folder Setup

The MacNail construction estimating software will manage your files for you. In order for it to work properly, it needs a standard folder layout. Your MacNail folder should look something like this inside:

The actual location of the files and folders on the screen is not critical--you just need to have folders and files, with those names, available within the MacNail folder. You won't need the folders for any MacNail modules that you are not actually using.

NOTE: The name of the outer MacNail folder doesn't matter. It also doesn't matter whether that folder is on the desktop, or is inside a folder. However, for more convenient access, keep the main MacNail folder directly on your desktop.

HINT: To check if your folder layouts are correct--double-click on the MacNail Manager, and click Cancel when asked where you would like to start. Choose *Check Folder Layout from the SPECIAL menu. You will be warned if some folders are not in the right location.
