Estimating Folder Setup

NOTE-- In 2000 we replaced MacNail estimating and accounting, with Goldenseal contractor estimating software. There are still plenty of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated software program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. You'll only have one Goldenseal file, so it's much easier to manage than MacNail.

Estimating Folder Setup

When you double-click on the Estimates folder to open it, you should see a folder arrangement inside that is similar to this:

* The Estimating Manager 3.0 'runs the show' when you are using MacNail contractor estimating software to create estimates. It adds special commands to the normal Excel menu so you can use MacNail worksheets more effectively.
* Transfer Manager 3.0 imports and sets up MacNail estimates from BidMagic, the Hyper*Estimator or Hyper*Remodeler. Rmove this file from your hard disk if you don't use those contractor estimating programs.
* The Current estimates folder will include any estimates that are currently active. They will be placed there automatically whenever you use MacNail to create a new estimate. You can also move estimates to another folder, or back, yourself.
* The Current reports folder contains all condensed estimates, project lists, charts, and other reports.
* The Estimating blanks folder contains the six specialized estimators that are included with MacNail Estimating 3.0, along with several other blanks needed for reports. It also holds custom estimators.
* The Hyper*Estimates folder contains a Lookup sheet used by the Transfer Manager. This is also a very good place to put the actual Hyper*Estimators themselves (see page 157).

WARNING: When using MacNail under Multifinder DO NOT move files into the trash from the finder while MacNail is running. Excel may still find them and use the trash as a folder! Use Delete from the File menu instead.
