When to Use Paint & Drywall Dimensions

Use the painting dimensions if you need to do any of the following types of cost estimation:

  • Interior paint estimates
  • Exterior paint estimates
  • Estimates for drywall installation
  • Estimates for interior taping or plastering
  • Estimates for exterior stucco work
  • Estimates for framing work, combined with any of the above

Dimensions work best for larger projects-- for a whole building or part of a building. If you are estimating a small paint job in just one room, you probably don't need to use dimensions at all.

Installing Dimensions

If you start with the Paint/Drywall Starter File, your company file will automatically include the layouts and calculators for paint and drywall estimating.

If you start with a new (empty) file or some other Starter File, you can import the construction dimensions.

Entering Dimensions

To enter paint and drywall dimensions, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Estimates from the Income menu.
  2. Click the New button, or choose New Record from the Edit menu, or find an existing estimate.
  3. Enter an account, estimate name and other details for the Estimate.
  4. Choose Estimate Dimensions from the Options menu, and choose one of the four dimension layouts.

HINT-- It's usually best to go through the dimension layouts in numerical order.  Dimensions on the higher-numbered layouts are calculated from dimensions on the previous layouts.
