Moving Layouts

I want to move a layout to a different file!

In Goldenseal small business software, you might want to move a layout to another file in any of these cases:

  • Move a customized layout from a test file to your regular company file
  • Restore an older layout from a backup file (reverting)
  • Share the same layout with another company file

To move layouts, you can either use a copy/paste for a single layout, or import/export for all your layouts.

HINT-- If you don't like a customized layout, you can also revert to the original version of the layout and start over.

Copy and Paste for Layouts

To copy a layout, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose the submenu for the type of layout.
  2. Use the popup fields at upper left to locate the layout you'd like to move.
  3. Choose Select All from the Edit menu.
  4. Choose Copy from the Edit menu.

To paste a layout somewhere else, follow these steps:

  1. If necessary, quit/exit from the current file, and open the new file.
  2. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose the submenu for the type of layout.
  3. Use the popup fields at upper left to locate the layout you'd like to move.
  4. Choose Select All from the Edit menu.
  5. Choose Clear from the Edit menu, to erase the current contents.
  6. Choose Paste from the Edit menu.

HINT-- You can copy/paste from one type of layout to another. Goldenseal will only copy over the fields that make sense in the new layout, so you may get some blanks!

Import/Export for Layouts

To export layouts, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Export from the File menu, choose Other Items from the submenu, and choose a layout type from the second submenu.
  2. Choose a file type (Layout is best for most uses), and whether to include stock layouts.
  3. Choose the location where the export file will be saved, and the name of the file.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Goldenseal will export all layout data to the export file.

To import layouts from somewhere else, follow these steps:

  1. If necessary, quit/exit from the current file, and open the new file.
  2. Choose Import from the File menu, choose Other Items from the submenu, and choose a layout type from the second submenu.
  3. Choose the file to import (you may need to navigate to a different location on your hard drive).
  4. Goldenseal will import the layouts into the current file.
