Starting With Goldenseal

What is the best way to start with Goldenseal?

Every user seems to have different learning styles, so there is no single "right" way to start with with the Goldenseal small business software. But here are some suggestions for beginners:

1. Try the Sample File for a While

The Sample Company File starts out with some records for a fictitious company. It matches the screen shots in the Getting Started manuals. It will help you learn the program by example. If you make mistakes in the sample file, it doesn't matter, since you can just throw it out when you are done with it.

2. Start with a Starter File

When you are ready to begin entering data for your own company, use a Starter File, which you can get from our software downloads page.

The starter file will already include cost categories, unit costs and other setup details for your type of businesses. Starter Files also contain the formulas for accounting reports, and the text for the "help" comments.

3. Learn One Thing at a Time

Goldenseal small business accounting software handles many different business tasks, so it's easy to get overwelmed when you first start using it.

It's usually easier if you stick with one task at first-- enter expenses, or start an estimate, or set up accounts for the first day or two. When you are comfortable with one business function, then you're ready to move on to something new.

4. Leave things Blank

If you are pressed for time, you can leave most data entry fields blank. Just create an account, give it a name, and start using it. You can always come back and fill in more details when you have more time.

If Goldenseal can't handle an empty field, it will warn you when you close the record. If it doesn't complain, that data is optional.

5. Call for Help
