Estimate Troubleshooting

NOTE-- Goldenseal construction estimating software replaced MacNail back in 2000. There are still quite a few MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and project management features. Most of the problems described here are Excel errors, and will not occur in the Goldenseal software program.

Make sure an estimate is the active window (in front)!

Most of the MacNail menu commands will only work on an estimate. If you choose them when some other worksheet is the active document, you will get this error message.
Check to make sure that your file has the word 'estimate' or 'estimator' in it--that is how the MacNail construction estimating software recognizes it as a valid estimating document.

Make sure an estimate or estimator is open!

If you choose a MacNail command that works on an estimate or estimator, and none are currently open, you will get this error message.

Menu items are grey.

Press the ENTER or RETURN keys--you may just be in 'formula entry' mode, which disables most menu commands.
Choose Fix Menus from the OPTIONS menu. Choose Unprotect Document from the OPTIONS menu. Many of the Excel commands are disabled when a protected document is active.

Message Bar is still displayed

If a macro is interrupted, it does not have the opportunity to 'clean up' the message bar You can do this yourself: type Option-Command-C (for 'Clear').
