More Imported Estimate Details

NOTE-- In 2000 we replaced MacNail estimating and accounting, with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still plenty of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated software program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It also includes a large number of construction assemblies that you can use for construction project estimating.

Gut/Rehab Projects

Two sets of variables are used for gut/rehabs, with independent calculations for FRAMING and FINISH areas.
* You can set the quantities of FRAMING that will be replaced.
* Both estimators will assume that all existing wallboard will be removed, and replaced with new FINISH materials.

Since it is always difficult to predict the scope of gut/rehabs, you should double-check the specifications list in MacNail Estimator to make sure that proper quantities are included for:
* Demolition
* Framing
* Wall/ceiling finishes
* Interior trim

Use the repair framing subcategory as needed, and consider entering several line items to compensate for the additional work created by working on older buildings.

Insulation Thickness

MacNail has room for only one thickness of wall, floor or ceiling insulation. If you are using multiple thicknesses on a project, create a separate line item for the other thickness, and enter it manually. The estimators currently store a per-inch price for materials. You can change the material unit price by editing the formula in the 'Total cost (mat)' column. Click on the cell, look at the formula bar at the top of the screen, and replace the variable (for example, 'wallins") with the actual insulation thickness.
