Imported Estimate Details

NOTE-- In 2000 we replaced MacNail estimating and accounting, with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still plenty of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated software program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It takes some interface features from both MacNail and HyperEstimator (and the latter's successor, BidMagic).

Transfer Quirks

We are still working on the 'ultimate' estimator (and probably will be doing so for some time)! In the mean time, there are some quirks in the way that the Hyper*Estimators and the MacNail construction estimating software go about estimating.

Carpet

Carpeting will give carpet and pad if area is put into pad 'used' it gives carpet only if the same number is put into carpet 'used'. This lets the transfer enter carpeting more easily.

Concrete Slab Floors

If you are building a multiple-story structure with a slab-on-grade downstairs, and wood frame floors upstairs, you will have to 'fudge' the estimate in the Hyper*Estimators. For best results, consider the downstairs as a finished basement, and convert any foundation walls to framed walls on the Foundation Specs card. You can also enter all floors as slab-on-grade, and adjust the slab area and the floor framing manually.

Concrete Walls and Footers

MacNail has room for only one thickness of poured concrete footers or walls--E1 and E2. If your project includes different thicknesses, create new lines for the other thicknesses, or calculate cubic yardages manually.
