Importing Estimates

NOTE-- In 2000 we replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still plenty of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. This section covers data importing between two retired programs-- HyperEstimator and MacNail.

Making the Transfer from Hyper*Estimator

We have 'linked' the Hyper*Estimators to the MacNail construction estimating software so that you can have the 'friendliness' of Hypercard estimating with the power of Excel. Run the transfer with a button in Hypercard, and a macro in Excel.

It is a four step process:

Step One: Export from a Hyper*Estimator

There is an Export to MacNail button on the OUTPUT card of the Hyper*Estimators. It 'packages' the project dimensions and project specifications into two files, which can then be read by MacNail. See the Hyper*Estimator Manual for further details.

Step Two: Arrange files

The two text files named Project Dimensions and Project Specifications carry all of the information about your Hyper*Estimator project. After they are created by the Hyper*Estimator, you should move them onto the same disk (and into the same folder) as the MacNail Transfer MANAGER. Quit from Hypercard first, unless you are running under MultiFinder. The two text files will be located in the same folder as the Hypercard program. You can move them to another folder or disk by dragging their icon.

Have the following documents in the Hyper*Estimators folder (inside the Estimates folder):
1. Project Dimensions (created by a Hyper*Estimator).
2. Project Specifications (created by a Hyper*Estimator).
3. Lookup sheet.

HINT: If you keep HyperCard, Home, and the Hyper*Estimators in the Hyper*Estimators folder, you will not have to move any files by hand.
