NOTE-- In
2000 we replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction
estimating software. There are still plenty of die-hard MacNail users,
so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal
is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract
writing features. Goldenseal uses estimating
templates, which work
the same as Estimators did in MacNail estimating. Changing an Estimate to an Estimator
Although it is safest
to customize one of the original estimators, you can take an existing estimate and turn it into an
estimator if you didn 't make any major changes to its original formulas. To do so:
1. While in the Finder,
open the Current estimates folder and click on the icon of the file to use.
2. Choose Duplicate from the FILE menu.
3. Rename the new copy, including the word estimator in the name (for example, Kitchen estimator).
4. Drag the icon out of the Current estimates folder, and into the Estimating blanks folder.
5. Open the MacNail Estimating software, and choose *New Estimate from the FILE menu. Click the open
an estimator radio button, and double-click on the name of the new file.
6. In Dimensions, type a zero in all project dimensions that are not in italics. Make sure that
you didn't type
over any of the calculated formulas that are in italics.
NOTE: If you imported the estimate from one of the Hyper*Estimators, all formulas will have been erased. Change
the estimate to an estimator only if you plan to use it to accept information from one of the Hyper*Esti-mators.
7. In Clearinghouse and Summation, restore any formulas that you typed over when entering subcontractor
quotes (see page 169).
8. In the Specifications list, carefully remove any 'one of a kind' items that you don't want to
include in all future estimates.
9. Choose Save from the FILE menu.
