NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic and MacNail construction
estimating programs in 2001. It has
been replaced by Goldenseal construction
estimating software.
We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual
as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are
similar, in Goldenseal estimating.
|
Although The BidMagic construction estimating software
is capable of producing finished bids, it is
not as flexible and accurate as MacNail
estimating software,
or Goldenseal estimating software.
MacNail offers the following
features that are not available in BidMagic:
- Multiple Wage Rates-- MacNail uses separate skilled wage rates for carpenters,
plumbers, electricians, and other skilled workers. This makes labor costs more accurate.
- Unlimited Items in
a Subcategory-- There is a limit to the number of line items that can fit under each BidMagic
subcategory. MacNail has an Add Row command that allows you to add as many line items as you need,
anywhere.
- More
Flexible Line Items-- MacNail lets you handle any individual line item on a labor and materials, sub
and materials, subcontracted or fixed price basis. BidMagic does that for whole categories
only.
- Better Reporting-- MacNail
estimates are easier to format--you can change report fonts, size, style, and
so on.
- Better Material Unit Prices-- MacNail Customizing calculates the unit cost
of materials from assembly lists and raw material price sheets. It makes updating
your material unit prices easier and more accurate.
- Links to Scheduling, Job Costing and Spec Writing-- MacNail includes several functions that are
all integrated with each other. MacNail Scheduling creates a schedule and material takeoff lists from any MacNail
estimate. MacNail
Accounting uses an estimate to create a Cost Control worksheet, which will track 'estimated' versus 'actual' costs
for the job. MacNail SpecWriter turns an estimate into a contract spec sheet.
Goldenseal offers all those features, plus greatly improved unit
price updating, better integration with project billing
and job costing, competitive bid tracking, and many other
improvemnts. |
