Estimating Roof Raising

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Raising a Roof

When raising the roof and building a new story on top of an existing building, enter the lower story even if you aren't doing any work to it. Give the lower story zero floor area, zero wall lengths and zero ceiling height later on, so only the upper story will be included in the project.

NOTE: If you are treating a roof-raising as a remodeling project, then you don't even need to concern yourself with the first floor. Simply enter each new room, plus any existing rooms that are affected by the construction.
In Specifications, you'll need to include any demolition work associated with the roof-raising. If you are physically lifting the existing roof rather than rebuilding it, enter the jacking labor into a separate line item under Other Framing or some other category.
