Starting a New Estimate

NOTE-- We replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction estimating software back in 2000. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and project management features. It stores Estimates as records in a database, which is much more convenient than having them in separate files.

Starting a New Estimate

Use the MacNail Manager to start the MacNail construction estimating software.

1. Double-click on the folder icon to open your MacNail folder.
2. Double-click on the file icon to open MacNail Manager.
3. A dialog box will appear.
4. Click the estimates radio button.
5. Click OK.
6. The Estimating Manager 3.0 will be loaded into memory, and special MacNail commands will be added to the menu bar.
7. Choose *New Estimate from the FILE menu.
NOTE: All MacNail menu items begin with an * (asterisk).
8. Click on the New Estimate button.
9. Click, once, on the name of the blank estimator you wish to use as a template for the new estimate (for example, MacNail Estimator).
10. Type in the project name (for example, 'Smith').
11. Click OK.

An Estimate is opened and named (in this case 'Smith Estimate') and you are ready to enter your project.
