Using Excel Windows

NOTE-- In 2000 we completely replaced MacNail with the newer Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, job costing and contract writing features. It is available for both Macintosh and Windows, and uses the same basic types of windows as other software for those platforms.

Sizing and Placing Macintosh Windows

MacNail Estimating software uses the same basic window types, as other Macintosh software. Here are the controls at the top of each window:

* Close Box: The close box or 'go away' box closes a window in the MacNail construction estimating software. If it is the only window of a file, it will remove the entire docuemtn from view. If it is on of several windows, the document will still be open.

NOTE: To close an estimate with multiple window display on, use *Close Estimate instead. Otherwise your document will re-open with fewer windows displayed.

NOTE: If you accidentally click the close box for one window of a multiple window display, choose *Reset Windows from the FORMAT menu. Choose it a second time to return to the multiple window display.

* Scroll Controls: Scrolling Click on the scroll box and drag it to move several screenfulls at a time. Click on the gray area above, below, right of or left of the scroll box to move one screenfull at a time. Click on the down, up, right or left arrow to move one line at a time.
* Size Box: To permanently change the size of a window, use the window, size box in the lower right corner.window, scroll bar
* Title Bar: To move a window to a new location, drag on its window, title bar with the mouse.
* Window Splitter: Use the window splitter to create two sections of the window. Then you can allow one section to remain stationary while you scroll through and work on the other section. You generally will not need to use the window splitter. MacNail already uses it to provide constant headings for each worksheet section.
* Zoom Box: You can open any of the windows, in multiple window display, to full screen size by clicking in the window, zoom box (to the right of the window title). Click a second time in the zoom box to return it to its smaller size.
