Changing Unit Costs

NOTE-- In 2000 we replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for their use! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It automatically updates estimating unit prices, whenever you enter or import new pricing for labor or materials.

Unit Costs

All construction unit prices in the MacNail estimating software are stored in the Specifications list, in the three columns on the right side of the screen. If you can't see the unit prices, choose *Reset Unit Price Display from the FORMAT menu.

To change any of the construction unit costs--click the mouse on the proper cell and type in a new number. If you are warned that the cell is locked, choose Unprotect Document from the OPTIONS menu.

Skilled and unskilled labor prices are stored as Person-hours per unit, while Material prices are in Dollars per unit. Check column B to see the size of the unit. If you have labor rates in dollars, you can come up with person-hour figures by dividing the dollar figure by the wage rate you use.

To add the new unit price to other estimators, be sure to change the code number to a negative number. The code number is located on the very far right.
