Customizing File Menu Commands

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It stores all of your estimating and accounting data in a single file, which avoids much of the "clutter" of multiple files, as happened in MacNail.

File Menu

The MacNail construction management software adds six new commands to the bottom of the File menu, to help you to work with Customizing files. All of the MacNail commands start with an asterisk (*).

NOTE: Some of the File menu commands may not be visible on a small screen. Drag the mouse down to the very bottom of the menu to see the remaining commands.

New Estimator

Choose New Estimator to create a new MacNail Estimator. It will first show you the following dialog:

Type in a file name for the new estimator, and choose one of the buttons to determine whether to make a 'clone' of another estimator, or whether to build a new estimator using the information in a Category Sheet.

NOTE: You'll only see the 'From this File' option if the active document is an estimate, estimator or Category Sheet.
See page 29 for more detailed instructions on the creation of new estimators.
