Window Removal Cost |
Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION Construction demolition unit cost for removal of a window. Unit Size One window. Labor Costs We figure about 3/4 hour of carpenter time to dismantle the window down to the framing, plus a little laborer time. The cost is based on old-style sashwork with sash weights, pulleys and solid nailing, working from the inside. If you are just popping out modern window units, the time will probably be more like 15 minutes. If for some reason you need to work from the outside, the time will be quite a bit more-- maybe an hour for a first story window and up to 2 hours for a second story window. Add additional time if the window contains lead paint that requires containment, or if you have to do a lot of futzing with the interior or exterior trim. Material Costs We throw in a smidgen of wrecking bar (one lost per 100 windows), which also helps to cover gloves, dust masks and other incidentals. Suggested Quantity We suggest the window count. That will probably be right for a total gut/rehab project. For others, type in the actual number of windows you'll be removing.
