Estimates with Padlock Removed

Problem

In Goldenseal construction estimating software versions 4.55 and earlier, the estimate will no longer update if the user removes the padlock column.

This problem can also occur if the user previously customized the layout for the Estimate window.

Caught By

User bug report.

Workaround

Use the Custom Layouts command to add the Locked column into the layout.

Follow these steps, if you don't mind losing or redoing the changes you've made to the layout:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu. and choose Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Enter Estimates into the Transaction popup field at upper left.
  3. Enter Items into the Layout popup field.
  4. Choose Revert to Original from the File menu.
  5. Close the layout, and save changes.

If you have made many changes to the Estimates data entry layout, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu. and choose Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Enter Estimates into the Transaction popup field at upper left.
  3. Enter Items into the Layout popup field.
  4. Click in the breakdown table.
  5. Choose Add Column to Table from the Edit menu.
  6. Choose Locked from the list of optional columns, then click OK.
  7. Close the layout, and save changes.

Solution

Starting with Goldenseal estimating software version 4.6, you can remove the padlock column from the layout, and still be able to use estimates.

NOTE-- Most people find it very handy to be able to lock or unlock Estimate line items, so you probably don't want to remove it!
