More Update Info

Here's more downloading update lowdown that will help you to make up your mind and get down to business!

Is there a limit to the number of downloads?

Nope. It's up to you how frequently to get updates. We will publish detailed info about the bug fixes and features in each updat,e so you can decide if you need it.

How often are updates available?

We usually release about one new feature version every year-- they include new features and improvements, plus fixes for any bugs that turned up since the last upgrade. Feature releases increase the version by .1 (one tenth).

We also release minor bug fix versions when they are needed. Bug fix releases usually increase the version by .01 (one hundredth).

How long will it take to download files?

Goldenseal program files are about 5 megabytes in size. Typical downlad times:

  • Dial-Up-- 12 to 20 minutes (possibly longer if you have an extremely slow line).
  • Broadband (DSL, WiFi or Cable)--1 to 2 minutes, depending on your connection speed, local user load and general Internet traffic rates.

What do I do after I download?

The Goldenseal updates are compressed for quicker downloading. For more about file compression, click here.

HINT-- The Goldenseal update replaces your Goldenseal application (the tree icon). That is the only thing you need to change-- all other Goldenseal files stay exactly the same.

Windows Version-- use Windows Explorer to decompress the file, then double-click on the Update icon to install the new version. NOTE-- Your anti-virus software may warn about downloading a compressed executable file (.EXE). It is safe to ignore the warning and download the Goldenseal installer.

Macintosh Version-- use the Mac Finder to decompress the file. After you have expanded the download file, remove your old version of the Goldenseal application (the tree icon), and replace it with the new Goldenseal application.
