Setting the Network Port

Feature

Starting with Goldenseal multi-user accounting software version 3.14, you can use any networking port to connect between client and server in the Goldenseal multi-user version.

This allows a more secure connection for a VPN (virtual private network).

How to Use

To set the networking port on the server, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Options menu, and choose Network from the submenu.
  2. Turn on the Change Network Port checkbox.
  3. Type in a port number (between 1 and 32767). You can also type in a two letter port name.

WARNING-- Some network port numbers are used for other purposes, and can't be used by Goldenseal. For best results type in a two letter port name. That will automatically select a number that is higher than the restricted range.

To change the networking port when you sign on as client, follow these steps:

  1. When you choose a connection type, turn on the Change Network Port checkbox.
  2. Type in a port number (between 1 and 32767). You can also type in a two letter port name.

NOTE-- The server and the client always need to use the same port number.

Technical Details

Goldenseal Multi-User accounting software versions 3.01 and earlier used port number 19782 (MF). Starting with version 3.13 we use port number 18176 (GS). If you have an earlier version and want to use the default port number, follow the steps above and change the server port to GS.
