Virtual Private Network (VPN) Basics

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a way to connect outside computers to your LAN (Local Area Network) via the Internet.

To make it work, you need the following:

  • The multi-user version of Goldenseal.
  • A static IP address for your server computer.
  • A high-speed Internet connection at your office.
  • A high-speed Internet connection at the remote location.

Windows XP and Macintosh OSX include built-in VPN support, so you can create a VPN connection with no additional software.

NOTE-- The VPN software creates a secure connection via the Internet. Your data will be encrypted as it flows over the public Internet, so you don't have to worry about hackers stealing your accounting data.
