Server Setup |
What kind of computer can I use as a server? You can use any Macintosh or Windows computer as server, for the multi-user versions of Goldenseal accounting and estimating software. If you are connecting through a LAN (Local Area Network), the server will need an EtherNet card and a connection to an EtherNet router. If some clients connect via a VPN, you'll need a static IP address and a steady Internet connection. For the server you can use any Macintosh, or any Windows computer with Windows 98 or newer (including NT, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7 and 8). HINT-- Generally you should use your fastest computer as a server. If you have both Macs and Windows and don't care which you use, a Windows machine will usually be slightly faster as a server.
