Customizing Breakdown Tables

How do I change breakdown tables?

Goldenseal accounting software sizes data entry screens so they will fit on a 640x800 monitor. If you have a larger monitor, you can widen columns on the breakdown tables, or add more columns.

Changing Breakdown Tables

To change the appearance of a breakdown table in one of the Goldenseal data entry screens, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Click on the Transaction popup field at upper left, and enter the type of transaction you'd like to change.
  3. Click on the Layout popup field, and choose the type of breakdown you'd like to change.
  4. You'll see all of the fields in the data entry screen in a graphic layout editor that lets you change any item.

Changing Column Widths

To change the width of any table column, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the bar between two columns in the table. The cursor will change to a resizing bar.
  2. Hold down the mouse button and drag right (to widen the column) or left (to shrink the column).

Adding Optional Columns

Many Goldenseal tables include optional columns.

For example, to add a column that shows the total labor cost for an estimate line item, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Enter Estimates into the Transaction popup field at upper left.
  3. Enter Items into the Layout popup field at upper left.
  4. Click anywhere on the breakdown table.
  5. Choose Add Column To Table from the Edit menu.
  6. You'll see a list of unused table columns. Scroll down to Item Labor Cost.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Goldenseal will add a column on the far right side of the table.
  9. To move the column to a different location, hold down the Command key (Macintosh) or Control key (Windows), click on the column and drag it to the left.

Changing Column Titles

You can change the title that is at the top of any breakdown column. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click on the table column.
  2. You'll see a column info dialog.
  3. Type in a new name, and click OK.
