Using MacNail with Excel 5

Problem

Using MacNail construction management software with Excel 5.0 XL5

Diagnosis

Will MacNail construction management software work with Excel 5.0?
Does it require an upgrade?

Solution

Older versions of MacNail will generally work OK with Excel 5.0. There are the following problem areas:
1. If they do a multiple-page workbook, some commands will give various error messages due to file name changes.
2. They should use the 'excel 4' menu setup, or else menu commands won't be removed when they leave the manager.
3. There's a weird small problem when making material takeoffs.
4. Mac XL5 will NOT open XL1.5 files.

To fix it, we have a new upgraded version of MacNail they can get. It's free if they purchased MacNail within the past 90 days. Otherwise, it's $5 per disk, or $10 for 2 or more modules. If they have Accounting 3.3 or earlier, they'll also need to pay $20 to upgrade to Accounting 3.4.
We can also talk them through code change fixes for most of the problems they'll run into, if they don't want to upgrade-- see item #375.
If they complain about the (nominal) cost, explain that Microsoft made some changes, and we really need to cover our distribution costs for the disks we need to send to make it compatible with the changes they made.
