Problem
User has damaged worksheet in MacNail construction
management software by unprotecting and changing formulas,
inserting or deleting an entire
row or column, filling down, or a hundred other things.
Worksheet itself opens fine, but data is wrong.
NOTE-- Try this link if the file
won't open.
Diagnosis
1. Try Undo from the Edit menu.
2. If that doesn't work, close file and do NOT save changes. Then reopen and see if it's
OK.
3. If neither of the above works, ask if they
have a recent backup copy that they can go back
to. If they are willing, it's easier than trying
to figure out exactly
what damage was caused in their construction
estimating software or construction
accounting software worksheet.
Solution
To restore from a backup copy, follow these steps:
1. Choose Save As, and save the file as "damaged ledger" or something similar.
2. Put the backup copy onto the hard disk, replacing newer/existing file (which is the damaged
one).
3. Open both damaged file and restored backup file. Copy/paste any new info from the damaged
file to the backup, inserting rows as needed to provide a spot for them.
If no recent backup and if you can't figure out what they did, ask them to mail
in the worksheet; we can usually fix things on sight.
Some people may resist this suggestion though. If they need a fix urgently or don't want
to mail a disk, you can try to rebuild the file if damage is not too drastic--but warn them ahead
of time that it may take 30 minutes or more.
