Make a New Estimating Assembly

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal Material Takeoff Software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Next, create a new material item:
1. Choose Material Prices from the Edit menu.
2. Click on the pop-up button next to Price Category, and choose Siding from the list (see illustration, next page).
Updating Material Prices page 49
3. Click the New Item button at lower left to add a new material to the siding material list.
4. Type in information about the new 6" redwood siding item-- its name, unit size, and material price. Also click on the Supplier pop-up button and choose a supplier.
5. Click the Sort button to put the list into alphabetical order, if you'd like.
6. Click the close box at the upper right corner of the window to leave the Material Manager.

Finally, create an assembly for the new item:
1. On the Unit Price card, make sure that redwood siding is still the active unit price. Click the Assemblies button to edit its assembly items.
2. You'll be taken to the assembly editor, which lists the materials and quantities that are used for this unit price. Since you made a duplicate of the cedar siding unit price, the assembly starts out with the materials used for that item of construction.
3. To change the cedar siding material to redwood siding, first click on the Material Category pop-up button, and switch to the siding category (see illustration, next page).
4. After you've switched to the siding category, click on the pop-up button next to cedar siding, and choose redwood siding from the pop-up menu of siding materials.
5. Because a different width of siding is used, you should also change the quantities for both siding and nails. With 5 inch exposure, you'll need 12/5 or 2.4 lineal feet of siding to cover each square foot.
6. Click OK to save the assembly for redwood siding. BidMagic will close the Assembly Editor, and return you to the Unit Price card.
7. The correct material unit price for redwood siding has been calculated, and entered into the material price field to the left of the Assemblies button.
8. Click the Save And Return button to return to the siding card. If you now hold the mouse down on any pop-up button in the Siding Materials category, you'll see your new item for redwood siding along with all the other siding items.
9. Congratulations! You have successfully added a new unit price to the bid, and created an assembly for it.
