NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic Material Takeoff
Software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal Material
Takeoff Software.
We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual
as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are
similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Sharing Material Prices
BidMagic and MacNail Material Takeoff Software each use the
same 'starter' database of material prices. As you create new material
items or change the price of existing materials, you can move that information from one program to the other.
Moving
Prices from BidMagic to MacNail
Once you have entered the latest material prices into the BidMagic
Material Manager, you can move them to a Material Price Sheet in MacNail Customizing. This is a
two-step process-- you'll
first export the prices out of BidMagic construction bidding software, then you'll import them into
MacNail.
Exporting material prices
out of BidMagic
To export material prices out of BidMagic, follow these steps:
1. If you are already in BidMagic, choose Material Prices from the Edit menu. If not, double-click
on the BidMagic Material Manager to open it.
2. Choose Export Prices from the Materials menu.
3. Enter the first date to use for the price export. Enter the date in month/day/year form, as in
1/1/95 or 12/31/95. If you want to export all material prices, enter an old date such as 1/1/90.
NOTE: All prices changed on or after the listed date will be exported. BidMagic automatically enters the
date for the last time material prices were exported.
4. You will be asked which categories you would like to export. To export prices for all categories, click
the Select All button. To export prices for only selected categories, click on the names of the desired categories
in the list, and click OK.
HINT: Hold down the Command key to select more than one category.
5. The prices will be saved in the BidMagic Files folder, in a file called Material Prices m/d/yy, where
m/d/yy stands for today's date.
Importing Material Prices into MacNail
The Transfer Manager is used to bring BidMagic's material
prices into MacNail Customizing. For more about the Transfer Manager, see the BidMagic Manual, page 383.
To import material prices into MacNail, follow these steps:
1. Open the Transfer Manager.
2. Choose Import Material Prices from the Bid Menu.
3. Click on Make a New Material Price Sheet if you've completely changed the materials in BidMagic,
and want to start over with the same materials in MacNail. Click on Update MacNail Price Sheet to update
the existing material price file.
NOTE: If you are using more than one Price Sheet in MacNail, the choice will read Update an existing Material
Price Sheet, and you'll be asked to choose which Price Sheet to import into.
4. Turn on Update existing material prices if you want to change the price of materials that are already
in the MacNail Price Sheet. Turn on Add new material prices if you want to add prices that are not already
there. Generally you will turn on both these options, but you can save time by using only one of them, if
that's all you want to do.
5. Click OK.
6. You'll be asked to choose a file from which to import the material prices. Click on a file, then
click OK.
7. Material prices will be imported into MacNail. The process may take a few minutes, depending on the number
of prices being imported, and the speed of your computer.
