Tutorial-- Making a New Unit Cost

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal Material Takeoff Software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Tutorial: Making a New Unit Price And Assembly

This tutorial will walk you through the process of creating a brand new specifications unit price item, complete with an assembly and a new material. The example we 'll use is redwood siding.

First, create a new unit price:

1. Open the bid or bidding template to which you would like to add the new item.
2. Choose Specifications from the Navigate menu.
3. Hold the mouse down on the button for Exterior Trim & Siding, and choose Siding from the pop-up menu.
4. You will go to the Siding Specifications card. Hold the mouse down on any pop-up button in the Siding Materials category, and choose Edit Unit Prices from the bottom of the pop-up menu.
5. You will be taken to the Unit Price Editor, which shows a listing of siding unit prices.
6. Click on cedar siding in the list at left, and then click the Duplicate button. BidMagic will create an exact copy of the cedar siding item, called cedar siding 2.NOTE: BidMagic automatically assigns a new, unique code number to the new item. All the other information will start out exactly the same as the unit price you duplicated.
7. Click in the Item Name field and change the name to redwood siding.
8. You may want to change the numbers for skilled and unskilled hours per unit, if you feel that the numbers for installing cedar siding aren't exactly the same for redwood siding.
