What are Takeoffs?

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

A material takeoff is a detailed list of all the materials you will need for part or all of a construction project. It includes each of the materials that will be used, along with an approximate quantity for each item.

Material takeoff lists are usually created after the project is underway. They'll help you to decide exactly which materials to buy for each stage of construction. In the BidMagic bidding software, material takeoffs are based on the unit cost info from a construction estimate.

You can also use a material takeoff during the construction bidding and specifying stage, if you'd like to have a list of the materials needed on the project.
