Moving Assemblies to MacNail Estimating

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal Material Takeoff Software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Sharing Material Assemblies

BidMagic and MacNail Material Takeoff Software each use the same material assemblies for each unit price. Assemblies created in either program can be moved to the other program.

Moving Assemblies from BidMagic to MacNail

Once you have entered assemblies into the BidMagic Material Manager, you can move them to an Assemblies file in MacNail Customizing. This is a two-step process-- you'll first export the assemblies out of BidMagic, then you 'll import them into MacNail.

Exporting Assemblies out of BidMagic

To export assemblies out of BidMagic, follow these steps:
1. If you are already in BidMagic, choose Material Prices from the Edit menu. If not, double-click on the BidMagic Material Manager to open it.
2. Choose Export Assemblies from the Materials menu.
3. The list of assemblies will be saved in the BidMagic Files folder, in a file called "Material Assemblies m/d/yy," where "m/d/yy" stands for today 's date.

Importing Assemblies into MacNail

1. Open the Transfer Manager.
2. Choose Import Assemblies from the Bid menu.
3. Click on Make a New Assemblies File if you've completely changed the assemblies in BidMagic, and want to start over with the same assemblies in MacNail. Click on Update MacNail Assemblies file to update the existing Assemblies file.
NOTE: If you are using more than one Price Sheet in MacNail, the choice will read Update an existing Assemblies File, and you'll be asked to choose which Assemblies file to import into.
4. Turn on Update existing assemblies if you want to change existing items that are already in the MacNail Assemblies file. Turn on Add new assemblies if you want to add assemblies that are not already there. Generally you will turn on both these options, but you can save time by using only one of them, if that's all you want to do.
5. Click OK.
6. You'll be asked to choose a file into which to import the assemblies. Click on a file, then click OK.
7. Assemblies will be imported into MacNail. The process may take a few minutes, depending on the number of assemblies being imported, and the speed of your computer.
