Getting Assemblies from MacNail Estimating

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal Material Takeoff Software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Moving Assemblies from MacNail to BidMagic Estimating Software

You can create material assemblies using MacNail Customizing, and then bring them into the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software. It's a two step process-- first you'll export the assemblies out of MacNail, then you'll import them into the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software.

Exporting Assemblies out of MacNail

1. Open the Transfer Manager.
2. Choose Export Assemblies from the Bid Menu.
3. If you are using more than one Assemblies file, you'll be asked to choose from which one to export. If you are using only the MacNail Assemblies file, that file will be used automatically.
4. You'll be asked for a file name in which to save the export. Change the suggested file name if you don't like it, then click OK.

importing Assemblies into BidMagic

After you have exported material assemblies out of MacNail, you can import them into BidMagic.
To do so, follow these steps:
1. If you are already in the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software, choose Material Prices from the Edit menu. If not, double-click on the BidMagic Material Manager to open it.
2. Choose Import Assemblies from the Data Menu.
3. You will be asked for a file from which to import the assemblies Navigate to the BidMagic Files folder, click on the name of the assemblies file created from MacNail, then click OK.
4. To import assemblies only for items already in the Material Manager price book, select Existing Items Only. To import assemblies for new items only, select New Items Only. To import assemblies for all items, new and existing, select All Items. To completely replace all of the assemblies in BidMagic, choose Replace Entire Price Book.
WARNING: Be very careful when using the Replace Entire Price Book option! It will erase all your existing material assemblies!
5. Once you have selected the appropriate import type, click OK.
6. BidMagic will import the assemblies. It may take a few minutes, depending on the number of items and the speed of your computer.
7. After the import is finished, go to each bid or bidding template that will use the new assemblies, and choose Update Materials from the Data menu.
