Project Scheduling Delays |
NOTE-- In 2000 we retired MacNail, and replaced it with a much better computer program called Goldenseal construction software. However, we still keep the MacNail manuals online, for die-hard MacNail users! Goldenseal handles accounting, construction estimating, and project management, plus simple construction project scheduling. There is also a delay factor in Goldenseal project scheduling, stored in the Working Hours used for the project. Construction Scheduling Delays The MacNail project management software includes a delay factor, to compensate for conditions that may change the overall timing of a project schedule. To adjust this number, type in a new value in the cell labelled delay factor near the top of the worksheet. Setting it to 1% or .01 (displayed as 1%) will delay every project step by that percentage. Setting it to -5% or -.05 (displayed as -5%) will speed up every item in the project by 5%. The proper delay factor will depend on many factors-- the efficiency of your crews, anticipated weather delays, subcontractor coordination, etc. Once you have scheduled and completed a few jobs, you should have a better feel for what kind of delay factor to use for different sizes and types of projects in the MacNail construction scheduling software. To handle a delay in the overall project starting date, type in a new starting date (see previous section). To handle specific delays in the middle of the project, add a row or rows, and enter a new schedule item such as "waiting for plumber". |
