Working with Lengthy Macros

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It's a stand-alone program that does not require Excel.

Lengthy Excel Macros

A few hints when using lengthy macros in the MacNail construction management software:

* Save all worksheets before beginning the macro.
* Close unnecessary files before starting the macro. If memory is tight, operations may slow down drastically, or be halted completely.
* Run lengthy macros when you don't need to use the computer for a while. We have designed MacNail so you can enter data and look at files quickly. Only a few 'posting' processes take time.
* Work on a copy of MacNail files when customizing, instead of using the originals. Then if you have any kind of problem, you will still have the original version of the file to fall back on.

To interrupt a macro:
1. Hold down the Command key and type a period several times.
NOTE: Sometimes the command key is labelled with an apple or a cloverleaf.
2. A warning box will appear. Choose Halt.
3. For best results, close all files and do not save changes.
