Payday Options

Use the Payday Options command to set the day on which you distribute paychecks in the MacNail accounting software. Depending on what you chose in the Payroll Options command, payday can be figured as a constant day of the week, or as a constant number of days before or after the close of each pay period.

NOTE-- In 2000, we replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction payroll software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. In Goldenseal, you set up payday options in each Wage Schedule that you use. We still include these instructions on our website, for die-hard users of our original MacNail Accounting software.

Using a Constant Weekday

If you chose Constant Weekday under Payroll Options, you'll be able to select a specific day of the week on which payroll checks will be distributed. Choose Payday Options from the Options menu to change the day of the week you use.

For example, if you select Thursday from the list, then payday will be the first Thursday after the close of each pay period. If your payroll period is weekly, this will be every Thursday. If you have biweekly payroll, it will be every other Thursday. If your payroll is done monthly, semi-monthly, or at some other interval, payday will be the first Thursday after the close of each pay period, no matter which day closes the period.

Using a Constant Offset

If you chose Constant Offset from end of period under Payroll Options, you can set payday to be a fixed number of days before or after the close of the pay period. Choose Payday Options from the Options menu to change the amount of offset.

For example, if your weekly payroll period closes on Wednesday and you distribute paychecks for that period on Friday of the same week, type 2 into the dialog box. If you distribute paychecks on Friday of the following week, type 9 into the dialog box.

If you have a monthly pay period that closes on the 15th of each month, and you distribute paychecks on the 17th of each month, then you'd also type in a 2.

If your payday is the same day as the close of the pay period, type in a zero. If payday is before the close of the pay period, type in a negative number.
