Managing Accounting Files

The MacNail construction accounting software uses many small, separate files to store your basic business information. You can manage your files directly within Excel, or use the Finder.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. All company information is in a single company file, so you don't need to fiddle with files as happened in MacNail and Excel.

To rename a file within Excel:
1. Use *Open File or Open to open the file.
2. Use Save As to give it a new name. You may need to use the File Finder (page 213) to move to a different folder before saving.

To delete a file within Excel:
1. Choose Delete from the FILE menu.
2. Use the File Finder to navigate through folders, and get to the desired file. Click on the desired file, and click OK. Click Cancel when you no longer want to delete more files.

To rename a file using the Finder:
1. Open folders as needed until you can see the desired file icon.
2. Click on the icon, and type in a new name.
