Subcontractor Billing Rates

Use Subcontractor Billing Rates to set up the amount you bill customers for subcontractor work on time and materials projects. You'll also use the rates for time tracking and job costing.

HINT-- To set up the amount you pay to subcontractors, use a Subcontractor Charge.

Entering Subcontractor Billing Rates

To enter a Subcontractor Billing Rate, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Billing Rates from the Options menu, then choose Subcontractors from the submenu.
  2. Click the New button, or click on an existing item and click the Edit button.
  3. Enter details for the billing rate.

Data Fields

Enter the following information for each Subcontractor Billing Rate:

Name-- Type in a brief name for this billing rate. This is the text that will appear in clairvoyant fields.
Description-- Type in any comments you'd like to make about this item.
Calculation Method-- Choose the method used to calculate this billing rate.
Amount-- If you are using a dollar rate, enter the dollar amount per unit of time.
Startup Cost-- If you charge a fixed amount in addition to hourly usage, enter it here.
Overhead Account-- Choose the overhead account associated with costs that use this billing rate.

Calculation Methods

There are several methods you can use to calculate subcontractor billing rates.

Dollar Rate-- A flat dollar rate for all uses of this billing rate.
Variable Rate-- A different rate for each subcontractor, which you enter in the Subcontractor account.
Gross Cost-- The amount charged by the subcontractor, before sales tax.
Gross Cost Plus Percentage-- The amount charged by the subcontractor before sales tax, plus a fixed percentage.
Net Cost-- The amount charged by the subcontractor, including sales tax.
Net Cost Plus Percentage-- The amount charged by the subcontractor, including sales tax, plus a fixed percentage

Using Subcontractor Billing Rates

Enter a Subcontractor Billing Rate into each Subcontractor account in the T&M Billing Rate and Job Cost Rate fields.

When you enter Subcontractor Costs, Goldenseal will fill in the usual billing rates.
