Skylight Framing Cost |
Construction Item Description Construction estimating unit cost for framing a skylight opening in new framing. Unit Size One skylight. Labor Costs We figure about 1.5 carpenter hours to position and frame the skylight opening. This price is an average cost for skylight openings in a simple roof framed with rafters. The labor cost will be less than one hour if a very simple roof with the ceiling attached to the bottoms of the rafters. It may be significantly more if you need to frame a "well" between the roof and a suspended ceiling, particularly if the side walls are slanted. For openings in a roof framed with trusses, you may need to figure additional framing time and may need to get engineering specs from the truss manufacturer if members must be cut to fit the skylight. Material Costs We include 16 lineal feet of 2x8 lumber for headers. You may want to add some additional 2x4 lumber for framing a "sky well" between the roof and ceiling framing. Suggested Quantity Based on the skylight count from the Window & Door Dimensions screen. Source of Construction Pricing An average price, based on job costing data from Turtle Creek Construction.
