More Info Windows

Can I shift some fields out of the main data entry layouts?

Starting with Goldenseal accounting software version 2.9, you can add up to four "more info" windows that contain additional fields for accounts or transactions. It's a way to reduce clutter in the main data entry window. Use the "more info" windows for fields that you don't need to look at very often.

To add a new "more info" window, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Accounts or Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Click on the popup fields at upper left, and open the layout you'd like to change.
  3. Choose New Layout from the Edit menu.
  4. You'll be asked to enter a name. Type in a name then click OK.
  5. Goldenseal will add a new "extra info" layout.

To add a new field to the layout, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the field tool (fourth row left in the tool palette), then drag a rectangle in the layout.
  2. You'll see a dialog that shows available fields for this type of record.
  3. Click on a field, then click OK.
  4. Goldenseal will add the field at the selected location.

To move fields from the main layout to the new layout, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Layout popup, and choose Long Form.
  2. Click on the fields you'd like to move to the "more info" window. You can drag a selection rectangle around a group of fields, or hold down the shift key to click on multiple fields.
  3. Choose Cut from the Edit menu.
  4. Click on the Layout popup, and choose the new layout.
  5. Choose Paste from the Edit menu.
  6. Drag the fields until they look nice.

To add a button that opens the "more info" window, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Accounts or Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Click on the popup fields at upper left, and choose the layout you'd like to change.
  3. Click on the button tool in the palette on the left side of the window (fifth row left).
  4. Click in the layout at the location where you'd like to add the button, and drag a rectangle where you'd like it to be.
  5. When you lift up the mouse button, Goldenseal will show you a list of available buttons.
  6. Click the next available More Info button, then click OK. HINT-- the Goldenseal accounting software lists four buttons which match up with the four possible extra info layouts (in the order they are created).
  7. Goldenseal will add a button at the selected location.
  8. Double-click on the button to change its appearance.
