Goldenseal is a material takeoff software program that creates a list of materials to purchase, from any Estimate that you've created. It uses construction assemblies to create the estimate, so it knows exactly how much of each material you'll need for the project.

To get a list of materials for a project, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Estimates from the Income menu.
  2. Click the template button (to the right of the New button) and choose a projet type.
  3. Choose Estimate Dimensions from the Options menu, and choose Basic Dimensions from the submenu.
  4. Enter measurements from the plans.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each dimension.
  6. Click the Update Quantities button to enter all the calculated measurements for this project. You can change any of the quantities, or enter new items into the estimate.
  7. Choose Estimates from the Reports menu, and choose Bill of Materials from the submenu.
  8. Enter the estimate you just created, and hit the Update button.

HINT-- There is also a Bill of Materials by Task report, that shows a material takeoff for each line item in the estimate.

Goldenseal provides other help for construction companies. Along with the material takeoffs, it also includes estimating, smple project schedules, basic accounting, job costing, contract writing and project management.
