Goldenseal is construction job costing software that tracks expenses for any type of construction projects. It lets you allocate labor, material, equipment and subcontractor costs to any category and subcategory, and also to separate locations within each project.

The Goldenseal program handles six basic types of job costs:

  • Equipment-- Enter Equipment Hours for usage of vehicles and equipment. You can use separate rates for job costing and for billing purposes.
  • Labor-- Enter Labor Hours for the time spent by your employees. Goldenseal uses the labor info for job costs, time billing and payroll.
  • Materials-- Enter Material Purchases for materials and supplies that you buy for each project, or for general use (overhead). You can also include Inventory Used transactions for items you take from inventory and use on a project.
  • Subcontractors-- Enter Subcontractor Costs for subcontractor invoices. Goldenseal tracks subcontractor insurance and gives you the option to not pay subcontractors with overdue insurance, or deduct a charge. It also makes sure that you don't overpay on subcontractor bids.
  • Other Costs-- Enter Other Cost transactions for utilities, insurance and other costs that don't fall into one of the other categories.
  • Cost Transfers-- Use Cost Transfers to make any type of adjustment to project job costing. For example you might use it if you move materials from one jobsite to another.

Goldenseal is built from the ground up to handle job costing. For example, it includes costs the minute you enter data from time cards or material invoices-- you don't need to wait until they are paid to use them for job costing or time and materials billing. Goldenseal gives you several options for including equipment and subcontractor costs, and it includes payroll "burden" as part of your labor costs. You can even have it figure worker's comp rates based on the type of work done-- and then include that exact amount as part of your job costs.

After you have entered expenses, use the Job Costs command to see a quick "snapshot" of job costs for each project, or view one of the reports to see an "estimated vs actual" breakdown of expenses for each cost category or location.

Goldenseal is an integrated software program which also handles general accounting, construction project estimates, contracts and project management.

Goldenseal includes all of the following:
