How does MacNail compare to Competitors? |
Problem how does MacNail construction
management software compare to our competition? caller wants comparision to competing programs for builders & construction companies Diagnosis GCWorks-- templates for Quicken and ClarisWorks. We do MUCH better estimating, and integrate better. Quicken is a good accounting program but even with their templates is still mediocre at job costing. We do better, using an 'estimated vs actual' format that's easy to use to improve the accuracy of future estimates. Some people use both GCWorks and BidMagic. WinEstimator, Turbo, Quantum Leap--ok, but we're more specific to building const. (especially remodeling). They also lack integrated accounting, spec writing etc. We've been around a long time and feel our estimating is the best out there. Canadian Const. Assn agrees-- rated BidMagic as #1 estimator, MacNail tied for #2 with Timberline Precision Estimating. ConstructionMac-- see above. Pen digitizer that comes with ConstMac will NOT do complex areas. It works with our stuff if they really want it. BuildSoft, Timberline, CDCI, ISS-- expensive, mainly for larger companies. We do single-entry accounting and detailed estimating. We are much better for small to med. biz. Contractor's Dream-- now out of biz. Always very buggy. Other companies-- there are always new construction software companies coming along. Many have an OK but buggy program. Tech support costs tend to kill many software companies after 2 to 5 years. We've been around for 23 years now, and we'll be sticking around. We've been around long enough to get the bugs out. NOTE-- As of 2010 few of the above construction software programs are still around, but many are gone. Comments Entered 10/10/95 by Lyn. Updated
