Problem
numbers not calculating right; MacNail construction
estimating software has some categories coming out too
low/too high
How to check for numeric errors or other number
problems
Diagnosis
General approach:
1. check dimensions. Most numerical errors are due to dimensions that are too high/low- esp. ceiling heights,
average ceiling height, floor lengths.
2. check section controls. There is a “section control” in column b and c on each title(bold) row
in the specifications area. if you type a 1 a YES appears and the numbers go to clearinghouse. If you type
a 0 a NO appears and the numbers go nowhere.
3. There are also section controls in the dimensions area at the bottom. These turn off whole types
of items (something like the clearinghouse divisions.)
Solution
It often helps to "back track" from summation to clearinghouse to specifications,
to isolate number problems to one or several specific specification line items.
