Categories with Negative ID

Problem

Some of our Categories in version 1 to 2.1 had a negative ID number. Version 2.2 import fixes the ID's but then causes problem in existing data that uses those categories.

Diagnosis

They did an export from a version 1 or version 2.1 file, then imported it with version 2.2 of Goldenseal job costing software.

Some cost categories don't show up in expenses. Some categories in Office Category System are blank.

Solution

This problem should not happen when importing in Goldenseal job cost accounting software version 2.3 or later. We now keep a list of changed ID's during the import, and updates any fields that refer to the old record ID's. That solves this problem (and more generically, any other import of data that requires a record ID to change because of ID conflict or invalid ID).

They can redo the import with latest version. Or just re-enter the incorrect ID if there aren't many items (there were about 8 categories that had negative ID's that required changing, all of them in overhead).
