Adding Material Prices

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal Material Takeoff Software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Adding Material Prices

To add a new material item to the Material Manager in the BidMagic Material Takeoff Software, follow these steps:

1. Open the Material Manager.
2. Click on the Price Category pop-up button near the top of the window, and select the category under which the item should be listed.
3. Click the New Item button at the bottom of the window.
4. A new item will be added at the bottom of the list .
5. Type in the name of the material in the box at upper right.
6. Move to Unit Size, and enter the size of item that is generally purchased. It might be ea (each), lineal foot, square foot, 8 ft. length, or some other unit.HINT: The Tab key is the easiest way to move from one field to another.

7. Next to Material Price, enter the cost of the item. Figure the cost of one unit (the same as entered in step 6).NOTE: Don't type in dollar signs or commas.
8. Enter a Markup percentage, if you separately add a percentage to your material costs. If you do not use a markup, enter a zero.NOTE: You do not need to type the % symbol.
9. In the Supplier field, click on the pop-up button and choose a supplier from the list. If the supplier is not listed, first choose Suppliers from the Edit menu to add them (see page 74).
10. If you want, type any descriptive text into the Comment field.

Note that BidMagic automatically calculates the net price for you, including the effect of the markup. BidMagic also enters today's date into the Last Updated field.

Repeat Steps 1 through 9 for every material price item which you wish to add to the price book.
