Subcontractor Log

The Subcontractor Log is designed to handle subcontractor invoices in the MacNail construction accounting software.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. The Goldenseal Subcontractor Hours records are very similar to the Subcontractor Log in Goldenseal.

Use the Subcontractor Log if you have frequent subcontractor invoices that cover more than one project, and/or more than one construction category.

If your subcontractor payments only occasionally cover more than one project (or more than one construction category) you will be able to do your subcontractor job costing directly from the Checkbook Ledger.

If you use the Subcontractor Log, you will continue to enter your actual subcontractor payouts in the Checkbook Ledger. The Checkbook Ledger transactions will correspond to the checks you write to your subcontractors, while the actual subcontractor invoices will go into the Subcontractor Log.

All job costing will come from the more detailed information in the Subcontractor Log, and any subcontractor transactions in the Checkbook Ledger will be ignored.

Opening the Subcontractor Log

You can open the Subcontractor Log in several ways. Probably the easiest is to choose *Subcontractor Log from the McN menu. If you want to open a specific Subcontractor Log, choose *Open File from the FILE menu, then click on Subcontractor Log.
